Did you hear the one about James Bond walking into grocery story… Wait, it’s not a joke! Spar Austria has signed up Pierce Brosnan as the poster boy (man?) for its ‘Premium’ line of products (private brand). Celebrity sparkle rarely hurts, right? But this one is something else.
Do you remember that famous Bond scene with James Bond shopping for groceries, trying to save a few bucks? You don’t? Nobody does! This is the guy who sold us (more or less directly) luxury watches and cars. Yeah, it’s (almost) premium groceries, but Bond? Really? I have a vivid imagination and all, but this borders on ridiculous. Perhaps it’s one of those postmodern ‘we-all-know-ads-are-stupid-but-lets-have-fun-together’ self-ironic gimmicks? Having seen the TV ad, Billboard and all, they seem to be serious.

Pierce Brosnan the king!!!

[...] Bond using SPAR’s products that makes sense. This truly speaks to me!’ ? I personally can’t buy into the ‘Bond prepares a SPAR Premium meal for his ‘Bond girl’ [...]

@ stella, nice image – the Bond apron
You are right. It is Dutch, but it was Spar Austria that signed Brosnan. Thanks for pointing it out – I stand corrected.
@darijan, exactly!

I think Spar wasn’t trying to be ironic with this ad campaign. At least not on purpose. And James Bond sure doesn’t look right with his apron on.
And by the way, the last time I checked Spar originated from Netherlands. Or am I wrong?

Bond is premium, but Spar … well I don’t think so. Just look at the ad says it all. Spar logo (which represents the retailer) just doesn’t fit in the whole picture.
